Senegal - The third international conference of the African Academies of the Sciences (ASADI) was held in Dakar, Senegal from 12-14 November with the theme "Water and Health in Sub-Saharan Africa." Sponsored by the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation of the United States, it focused upon tackling water-related maladies such as diarrhea, bilharzia (schistosomiasis), and malaria through the coordinated efforts of government, private, international, and charitable groups. ASADI's member nations are South Africa, Kenya, Cameroon, Uganda, Nigeria, Ghana, Canada, and the United States.
