World Urban Forum 4, Nanjing Habitat Seminar: Slum Mapping with Space Imagery

On Tuesday, 4th November 2008, a short seminar on slum mapping with space imagery was held at the World Urban Forum in Nanjing China.

Description

This event brings together experts in slum mapping to share their experiences with the wider WUF community. Findings from an expert group meeting on slum mapping held in May 2008 are highlighted. The event explained how information on slums can be extracted from very high resolution remote sensing images, for basic slum mapping, planning and monitoring purposes. It also provided insight into participatory approaches to slum mapping involving NGO's and CBO's. Examples of slum mapping from cities around the world were given, demonstrating the diversity of contexts and implications for slum mapping processes. Hosting Organizations: International Institute for Geoinformation Science and Earth Observation (ITC), The Netherlands; UN-HABITAT, Nairobi; Ministry of Housing, Planning and Environment, The Netherlands;
