The following files are associated with John Luke Gallup and Jeffrey D. Sachs, 
with Andrew Mellinger, "Geography and Economic Development" (CID Working 
Paper no. 1, March 1999). The dataset is described in detail in the appendix to this paper.

geo_in.do is a program written in Stata to load the data in geodata.csv and 
create the variable labels etc. in geodata.dta. It can be used as a model to
load the data into other statistical packages besides Stata.

geodata.dta is the Stata data set with the geography data.

geodata.csv is an ASCII comma separated value file of geography data that can be
opened as a spreadsheet in Excel.
