The Global Urban Demography Dataset provides detailed information about the age-sex structure of every urban settlement globally at annual intervals over the period 2000 to 2020. The three files provide information on A) the raw age-sex counts for each urban place, each year, B) Demographic statistics (dependency-ratio, population counts, sex-ratios, birth rate, general fertility rate) for each urban place, each year and C) Estimates of net migration of working-age populations between 2000-2010 and 2010-2020. |

Methods |
To produce these data, we use zonal statistics to derive the population counts within the urban area for each age-sex group. This provides a dataset with raw age-sex counts for each urban place (dataset 1). From here, we perform calculations across the dataset to produce demographic statistics for each urban place in each year (dataset 2). Finally, we produce a novel dataset estimating net-migration of the working-age population into urban areas across a 10 year time period. These data are produced by counting additional urban residents added to the working-age cohort in the latter time point. |
