Sritharan (Sri) Vinay

Biography

Sri Vinay heads the Information Technology division at CIESIN. He is the systems engineer for the Socioeconomic Data and Applications Center (SEDAC), a data center in NASA’s Earth Observing System Data and Information System. His training is in electrical and computer engineering, energy technology and applications of remote sensing and GIS. His area of expertise and interests are:systems and software engineering, information systems architecture and design, database design, data and systems integration and interoperability, and remote sensing and GIS Applications.

Mr. Vinay received his masters degree in electrical and computer engineering from the University of Toronto. He holds a masters degree in energy technology from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Bangkok, Thailand, and a bachelors degree in electrical engineering from University of Madras, India. Prior to joining CIESIN, he was a research associate and software developer at the United Nations Environment Program - Global Resource Information Database (UNEP-GRID) node, Bangkok, Thailand. He was the information systems manager for Sri-U-Thong Co. Limited, Bangkok, Thailand, and was a research associate with the European Community - Cooperative Program on Energy and Development (EC-COPED), Bangkok, Thailand. He served as an instructor in the department of Telecommunications Engineering at the Church of South India (CSI) Technical Institute, Salem, India.
